What does little drum coffee do?
Little Drum Coffee is a small-batch coffee roaster based in Mount Maunganui. What does that mean? We roast our coffee in small batches in our Little Drum Roaster, which is where our name comes from. Our coffee is supplied to local cafes and businesses as well as the public through local stockists and via our online store.

What is Little Drum Coffee all about?
In a nutshell, we’re all about keeping things quality, and local. That’s why we focus on small batches, so we can keep an eye on what really matters to us: making truly bangin’ coffee. Our catchment for wholesale supply is very local, focused on the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions. Our retail coffee is available nationwide through our web store.

What is Q Grade, and what does specialty coffee actually mean?
A Q grade is the internationally recognised grading system for bean quality based on a standardised method and set by Q Graders (certified professionals trained by the Coffee Quality Institute). After assessment, a Q grade score is given out of 100. Coffees that sit at 80 or above are considered specialty coffee. All of Little Drum’s coffee beans are are specialty grade according to this system.

Blends or Single Origin beans? does it matter?
Each have their pro’s and cons. What it really comes down to is what you like the taste of, and there are no wrong answers there, no matter what a coffee snob might tell you! Opt for a blend if you like consistency and economical beans. Single Origins are favoured for delectable flavour and variety depending on origin, season and processing method. We talk about this in one of our blogs, read it here.

To help you navigate our range of specialty coffees we’ve got three roast profiles to help narrow down your choices according to your palate. You can shop by roast profile online, or you’ll see the roast profile noted on the sticker on the front of every bag, easy!
Light & Bright roasts offer fruity, vibrant delights. You’ll enjoy bright acidity and complex flavours. This roast profile is perfectly suited to manual brewing and filter coffee.
Strong & Bold is for when you want it grunty. Sometimes a classically strong coffee is what you’re after and that’s when you turn to our Strong & Bold coffees. Great for any application, especially espresso.
Smooth & Rich is where to look if you love chocolate, caramel and malt notes in your coffee. Think decadent, rich and indulgent flavours. Smooth & Rich goes well in any application.
